Professor Kong Yue is a distinguished scholar and practitioner in the field of timber structures, currently serving as a Professor in the College of Civil Engineering at Nanjing Tech University. He also holds key leadership roles as Vice Dean of the University’s New Rural Development Research Institute, Director of the Building Carbon Neutrality Research Center, and Director of the Modern Timber Structure Laboratory.
He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Wood Science and Engineering from Northeast Forestry University and both his Master's and Doctoral degrees in Wood Science and Technology from Nanjing Forestry University. He further enhanced his research expertise through a postdoctoral fellowship in Materials Science and Engineering at Nanjing Tech University from 2008 to 2010.
With deep expertise spanning both academia and industry, Professor Yue plays an active role in several professional associations. He currently serves as Secretary-General of the Bio-based Materials and Structures Committee of the Architectural Society of China, the Bamboo and Timber Structures Committee of the Jiangsu Society of Civil Engineering, and the Modern Bamboo and Timber Structures Working Committee of the Jiangsu Construction Industry Modernization Promotion Association.
Professor Yue had made substantial contributions to the standardization and advancement of timber construction in China. As a principal drafter, he has participated in the development of 19 national, industry, local, and group standards, including the General Code for Timber Structures (GB 55005) and the Technical Standards for Multi-story and High-rise Timber Buildings (GB/T 51226). His scholarly output includes over 130 papers published in international journals, and his work has been recognized with multiple academic and research awards.
His research focuses on key performance aspects of timber structures, such as fire resistance, durability, and occupant comfort, as well as the development of bio-based structural materials. Under his guidance, his technical consulting team has supported the realization of landmark timber projects, including the Suzhou Xuhong Bridge—a 75.7-meter single-span timber truss arch bridge, and the timber roof of the Rongjiang County Swimming Hall in Guizhou Province, which features a 50.5-meter-span tension arch. In recognition of his contributions to the field, Professor Yue has been honored as an “Advanced Individual in the Modernization of Jiangsu Province’s Construction Industry.”
